Perhaps the most frequently asked question we receive when it comes to SEO is, “How long until I see results?” The honest answer is: “it depends”. Not only is this the most asked but it’s perhaps the hardest to answer. This is for a number of reasons.
Not only are there factors that that apply to a client’s own site but their competitors’ sites also have to be take into consideration. This complicates an already complicated process.
If you’ve come here looking for a specific timeline for results, you’ve come to the wrong place. It’s impossible to say that your website will be in the number one spot for this keyword in 12 business days. If anyone promises you that, they’re lying and you should run away, fast.
You also won’t find a magic solution for getting your website search engine optimized. There isn’t one. It’s a complicated process that takes time, research, and special dedication for each and every client.
SEO is definitely more than guesswork – and frankly, guesswork won’t get you results. It’s about knowing the different factors present on and off your website vs. those of your competitors. We often tell our clients that SEO is about finding what your competitors are doing and then matching that and more.
When we analyze a website we take three different criteria into consideration. These criteria all play a role in how long it will take for your SEO to start working.
The more competitors you have, the longer your SEO will take and the harder we’ll have to work to get you showing up. If you’re selling squirrel bobbleheads, you probably have very little competition so website optimization might be all you need. However if you’re an electrician in Los Angeles, you’re going to need a lot of work done and it’s going to take some time. There are a lot people fighting for that number one spot.
You can imagine that the more competitors you have, the longer it will take for results to start showing.
Here’s another thing to consider when looking at your competitors: the number of competitors in a specific niche and the SEO professionals who are trying to get these websites ranking.
The more competition out there, the more there will be a demand for SEO professionals. More deals and services are offered to try to get that client but some times the work is not up to par. The competition that will take longer to advance above will be the ones that are able to spend money on better SEO services – which are usually the larger companies.

The Importance of Links
Links are still a huge part of SEO. How they factor into the time it takes for SEO to work also depends on different variables.
It makes sense that more links mean more success – just be sure that these links are good links and won’t cause a penalty on your website. A bunch of low-quality links from websites won’t help your rankings and may even hurt it which will cause more time to be spent cleaning up your project. It’s important to focus your efforts on finding high-quality links from websites that are relevant to your services or products.
It’s also important to spread out the rate in which you collect the links and to pay attention to how fast you have gotten links in the past. A huge amount of links gained quickly might cause search engines to be skeptical. A slow rising intact of new links is natural but will look unnatural.
Earning links fast can get you ranking however but it may also hurt you in the long run. You may see your website listed higher in the rankings but when search engine algorithms are run you may see you listings dropped.
SEO, these days, is all about content. And quality content at that. Content, relevant and helpful, can get your website ranking quicker.
Unfortunately it’s not as easy as it was in the past. Writing basic 300-word articles about nothing in particular is not going to help rank your website. This doesn’t mean you have to write a novel every time you write a new post though. There’s actually no ideal length – the content simply has to be revenant and helpful to the person reading it.
Google has also debunked the myth that content has to be published slowly. Professionals in the past have said that pushing a ton of new content to your website can look unnatural and may get flagged by search engines. This is not true anymore.
If you can post great content that people will find useful – publish away! The quicker it’s published on your website, the quicker it will get found and have the chance to positively rank your website.
Older websites rank better than newer website so if you are publishing content on a newer website and not seeing results, this may be why. Once your website ages you will find it easier to get new content ranking.
Even though it does hurt to publish multiple articles quickly, consistency is also a factor. Consistency is important because search engine sees that new content is added to your website on a schedule and it will help users want to return to your website to read what you have to say.
